One month, fourteen Golf courses and plenty of added planning for the Ultimate trip – the work has been worth every second. From the time of the brief until the hand over, I have loved playing Consultant, Golf course expert, World news watcher and party planner, all rolled into one. Did I mention the Fly fishing and Meerkat expeditions?
The brief was clear. Want sunshine, the Big 5 and plenty of golf, in particular a round at Leopard Creek and Fancourt. The rest of the golf courses and trip would be up to me. Getting into Leopard’s Creek is nigh impossible, but neigh went the other way. Called up my colleagues in Cape Town, the wonderful Livingstone Safari’s, and between us, our client may just have golfalitis by the time he returns to wintery England in January!
What I really enjoy, is getting to know my clients, to find out preferences, previous trips, what kind of food and wine they enjoy and so on. If it’s adventure travel or family travel. Given dates, such as this brief, it is important for me then to step up the extra service promise, and, I believe, the personal experience and eduction. Very simple to go to a Tour Operator and book a special, but will they make sure that you are in the perfect place for Christmas Eve? 5* Hotel Chain for a single traveller often means 5* loneliness whereas an excellent Guest House means meeting like minded travellers. Which restaurant will happily welcome, in this case, my single golfer, without the cliched response – all these little things, and at times, very little aspects will make or break the perfect journey.
Pezulu Golf Course
Steenberg, Erinvale, Pearl Valley, Arabella, Fancourt … ticked. Meet and greet. Ticked. Pocket book of the best restaurants, craft markets, cafes, ticked. Interesting places to visit on those rare non-golf days, ticked. From airline to car hire to swimming pool towel provider … ticked.
Handing over the pristine documents is brief in relation to the months of planning: communication across the oceans, putting together what one believes is the best – the beautiful trip you would love to do, someday, when I can play golf kind of day.
Sibuya Game Reserve.
Top it all off with a few days cut off from the world on a Game Safari and how about a night at The Peech in Johannesburg before flying home. Doable? So doable!
Bon voyage, play plenty of golf, lap up the beaches, the sunshine and the scenery. Taste and Drink from the South Africa basket to the thread of memory for more will haunt you and fall in love. Advertising is a trap of over used words and phrases – so I will simply say, an honour to put you out there on the green, snuggling up in the Boma, sipping the Malbec and bringing in the New Year in the best place on earth.
Rovos Rail next year for sure sir … planning already.
